Pick 3
1 point for each medallist correctly picked
+2 for correct medal (i.e. if you pick Bekele to win and he does, that's +3 total)
entries
Men
100: Gay, Powell, Obikwelu (unusual lack of US dominance)
200: Bolt, Gay, Spearmon (Gay upset)
400: Wariner, Merritt, Taylor (US sweep)
800: Mulaudzi, Kamel, Symmonds (big kick from Symmonds; Ramzi and Baala not serious threats. Borzo 4th, Khadevis leads at 600 but finishes 5th or 6th)
1500: Webb, Baala, Kaouch (Webb wins, Kenya shut out)
5000: Lagat, Mottram, Kipchoge (Mottram goes with 400 and gets outkicked. Mini Bekele 4th)
10,000: Bekele, Sihine, Tadesse (Gebremarium falls off to lose Ethiopian sweep. Abdi top 10, Rupp not so great)
Marathon: Ramaala, Gharib, Suwa (Gharib loses threepeat attempt in last few miles)
steeple: Kemboi, Mateelong, Kipruto (don't know anything, go with the Kenyans)
110HH: Xiang, Trammell, Payne (ASIAN POWER!)
400H: Sanchez, Clement, Carter (can't go against Sanchez. Batman owned.)
HJ: Rybakov, Thornblad, Silnov (going for people with high PR's and cool names)
PV: Walker, Hartwig, Otto (don't know what I'm talking about)
LJ: Saladino, Phillips, Mokoena (why not?)
TJ: Olsson, Idowu, Gregorio (picked the two names I knew and the guy with a big PR)
Shot: Hoffa, Cantwell, Nelson (event for fat people. Americans rule)
Disc: Kozmus, Pars, Esser (no idea why Eastern Europe is so good at this)
Hammer: Tsikhan, Devyatockiy, Zagornyi (Belarus is the shit)
Jav: Greer, Pitkamaki, Vasilevski (go whitey)
Decathlon: Seberle, Clay, Krauchanka (there is a guy named Alberto Jauntorena competing for Cuba)
4x100: US, Jamaica, Great Britain (very close without a dominant American team)
4x400: US, Bahamas, Japan (sure, Japan. Gotta pick those guys for something on the home turf)
Women
100: Campbell, Edwards, Felix (big booties)
200: Felix, Campbell, Richards (Allyson Felix is cute)
400: Richards, Trotter, Hastings (double US sweep)
800: Krevsun, Schmidt, Kotlyarova (Mutola not entered)

5000: Dibaba, Defar, Cheruiyot (Flanagan 5th or 6th)
10000: T. Dibaba, Abeylegesse, Smith (huge run for Kim Smith. Deena top ten)
Marathon: Ozaki, Ndereba, Zhou (Ndereba always gets second, and Japanese women always win)
steeple: Jepkorir, Samitova-Galkina, Petrova (Kenyan women finally start winning)
100HH: Perry, Powell, Felicien (Americans with top seed, can't go against that)
400H: Rawlinson, Johnson, Ross-Williams (whatever)
HJ: Vlasic, Hellebaut, Bergqvist (sounds like a pickle brand)
PV: Isinbaeva, Stuczynski, Howe (second chick is an American I hadn't heard of)
LJ: Lebedeva, Kolchanova, Simagina (so many Russians)
TJ: Savigne, Lebedeva, Sestak (I wanted a Cuban to win and there was one, so I picked her)
Shot: Ostapchuk, Lammert, Vili (I'll skip the TV coverage)
Disc: Powell, Dietzsch, Breisch (basically like Frisbee)
Hammer: Khanfeyeva, Khonetseva, Skolimkowska (they aren't fond of vowels, except at the end of names in this event)
Jav: Obergfoll, Spotakova, Nerius (this is getting boring)
Hept: Kluft, Blonska, Ennis (Kluft never never never loses)
4x100: US, Russia, France (it's a relay)
4x400: US, Belarus, Poland (again relay=US is favorite)

Stuczynski has been all over T&F news. Where have you been?
Speaking of which, who wants to get a subscription to T&FN? Do any of us have one? I think it would go nicely in either the Parkwood or Wilson bathrooms or the training room, especially since Arjun is moving away and taking Bicycle Quarterly with him.
I'm down for signing up for one for here.
i just won a three-year old bet with a high school friend. the bet was on who would go under 15:37.5 for 5000m first, and the prize was a copy of T&FN. I'm not necessarily planning on collecting, though.
also, my letsrunning has been scanty lately. i'm not as on top of things as I used to be. does this chick have the AR now?
Stuczynski set the the AR at the adidas classic that Ian, Arjun and I went to. I think she set it again in a meet a few weeks later too.
Also I think Baala is a drug cheat. Maybe it's just that I don't like him, but I do not believe his 1000m time is clean, at all!
Dude I really don't think Sanchez will win the 400 hurdles. We saw him race at Pomona in the open 4 and he was terrible, got his ass wooped by some guys you've never heard of. Plus he has been plagued with injury and whatnot.
Garrett, you have to remember that he ran the 400 in April. The pro season ends in August. Think about it man, in high school the season started in January and ended around May. You shift this over three months and you see that his April run was really just a tune up early season indication of fitness not important run.
I think Kaouch was caught doping, so he's out right?
There is a lot of gossip flying around about Kouch (check out the LetsRun.com message boards). He was giving a provisional suspension until his B sample came back, but no word on that and he is included in the provisional entry list but that isn't certain either. He is some of Webb's biggest competition.
The japanese 4x1 team ALWAYS has the best handoffs in the field. They're slow but they make up for it with perfect execution.
late changes:
kaouch is not running, so i'll put mansoor in his spot
gharib is not running the marathon, so i'll put in Julio Rey for his spot, since he's spanish and it's supposedly hot in osaka
finally, mutola is running the 800, so i'll put her in third instead of that unpronounceable name currently there
The Men's Marathon looked truely painful. Almost half the field DNF'ed and the winning time was 2:15, with the favorites nowhere in sight. People were running way off their PRs. Poor Mitsuru Kubota of Japan ran over 45 minutes off of his PR (2:59 vs 2:12).
Yay Alan Webb made it past the first round! No repeat of Athens thus far.ast
