Who had a better DIII career - Macharia Yuot or Will Leer? (yup, some of his fans made a wikipedia page)
Yuot: Won Nationals in Steeple, 5000m, 10,000m in 2006. Won Nationals in XC in 2006 and ran 2:25 at the Philadelphia Marathon the next day
Leer: Won Indoor Nationals mile 2006 and 2007, won 1500m and 5000m outdoor nationals 2007. 3:40 1500m at US Nationals 2007. 7th at Nationals in XC 2006.
The Case For Yuot:
Won every DIII long distance championship race in 2006 outdoor and cross.
Walked like a thousand miles across the desert to escape ethnic wars at age tiny.
They squared off for both their last collegiate cross country races at nationals, and Yuot won.
The Case For Leer:
Second-fastest DIII 1500m runner, ever.
1500/5000 double is arguably as difficult as Yuot's triple b/c 1500 has rounds.

I'll go for Yuot because I'm slightly more impressed by an insane competitive championship record than by an insanely fast time run against the pros, but it's a close call. If the course at cross country that year had been dry, Leer's speed, which is absolutely gratuitous for a xc runner, would've had a shot to make things very interesting for champion Yuot.

Yuot, no doubt. If the course was dry, Yuot would have won and Boggs would have been a relatively close second. Leer third, at best (remember he lost at Regionals and they were both running all out). In 2005 track, Yuot was 2nd to Moen in the 5k and 10k, also second in cross country the previous fall. Of course Leer was 2nd to Symmonds in the 1500m as a junior, made the finals of the 800, and won the indoor nationals mile (indoors isn't as important). So I'd say Yuot had the better junior year.
So, Yuot's triple > Leer's double, and Yuot's XC triumph, and runner-up finish to Moen, is worth more than Leer's two indoor titles.
Yeah, but if you had included wicked 'staches in the mix, Leer would have won with no contest.
