The new Nike Free 3.0's are here! I've just laced them up and put them on and have begun the short un-arduous process of breaking them in. Upon first examination they unsurprisingly look remarkably similar to the 5.0's. However, at a closer look they are quite unique. The bottom is given a cross-hash pattern that will exercise every little muscle in your foot and possibly destroy them if you run too much in these shoes. The side of the shoe is a mesh design that is extremely light and more breathable than the leather-like mystery material used for the 5.0. I'll be taking my first run in these either later today or sometime tomorrow, so sit tight for the news and the hotness and the heat and the strong strong foot muscles.

Can someone please explain why the new Nike Free's are 3.0s, while the old ones are 5.0s?

Nike Frees are rated on a scale of 0 to 10. 0 represents no support at all, or totally barefoot. 10 represents the most rigidly supported shoe you can possibly have. The Nike Free 5.0 was supposed to be right in the middle, somewhere between no and full support. The inserts they give you also allow you to go down to 4.5, but the new 3.0s have even less support.

Also Katherine, they still sell the nike 5.0's, naturally. But in addition to the new 3.0's are the 7.0's

The shoes are feeling good. I've now taken a 2 mile jog and a 6 mile run in them. No outstanding pain in the feet from either of these runs! In addition I should probably mention that they feel like moccasins.
